New in the Hallmark Room this October

This month the Hallmark Room is dedicated to the work of Su France - a Lincolnshire-based printmaker.

Su creates hand printed works on paper, collages and mixed-media informed by the textures, colours and life cycles in her rural
landscape. Like kintsugi - the Japanese art of repairing pottery with gold lacquer - Su embraces the philosophy that breaks, flaws, and healing are part of life's beauty and speaks of ‘ what is precious?’. The patinated qualities of ceramics, geology and weathered surfaces inform what she creates. Photography is her sketchbook: images of rusty treasure, insect-bitten leaves and inky skies fill her camera roll. As well as being a printmaker, Su works with linens and earth pigments, navigating across both mediums with similar threads of inspiration. Her work is deeply rooted in place - this is where the meaning lies. Her recent practice focuses on noting the marks on the land, the wild, and the patterns of the Lincolnshire farm where she lives, with its vast skies above.
